Women’s Nature Retreat South Africa
March 2021
Imagine… Gecko Rock, a private nature reserve located within one of the world’s most unique regions: the Karoo in South Africa… Described by Prof. Bruce Rubidge as a ‘Palaeontological Wonderland’… Indigenous plant and animal life aplenty... A mere 2,5 hour drive from Cape Town... And there a group of diverse women, meeting across several divides.... European and African, perhaps from other continents too... Black, white, coloured and more: a mix of races and ethnic backgrounds... Across the economic divides that exist within South Africa as well as globally too, which is rare, because retreats like these are usually not affordable for economically underprivileged women... So women who normally do not easily meet... Who live very different lives, each with their own particular blessings and challenges... And 3 equally diverse facilitators... Together for a week... To discover even more of what it means to be woman... To heal and empower ourselves as women... To celebrate our sisterhood.
Why?
Inspired by our own journeys and coming together as sisters, we wish to share this tremendously powerful way of being and working with you. To empower and heal ourselves as women, with a ripple effect into our families, communities, countries, globally. By taking each other's hands and allowing space for what is there, we create even more awareness of the richness of being woman.
Ingredients:
- Nature as a source to be, connect and empower,
- Deep transformative dialogues and story telling,
- Personal reflection time & time to be together,
- Celebrating life and sisterhood.
Facilitators
Karen Verburgh, Busi Mgbemena and Din van Helden.
Rates
We would like to enable every woman that truly wishes to take part in this wonderful experience to be able to do so, regardless of her financial circumstances. Our actual costs per person are around €1.000 or R15.000 (depending on the number of people in the group and the exchange rates). Obviously far more women in the economically privileged parts of the world will be able to afford this than women in South Africa, some of whom might be living in townships and earning very little to nothing. Therefore we are proposing the following sliding scales: one for South African women, and one for the women from the more economically privileged parts of the world.
Since the incomes per household in South Africa vary greatly, we use a sliding scale for South African women from R800 to R20.000 (Click to view). The sliding scale for the economically privileged Western women ranges from €1.500 to €2.000. If you can afford to pay €2.000, great: you will make it possible for a woman from a township with virtually no income to attend.
These rates include facilitation; local transport from Cape Town International Airport; shared accommodation for the week at the Gecko Rock; 3 meals a day.
